Couple jailed for spending government money wrongly credited to their account in India.
An India court has sent a man and his wife to jail after finding them guilty of spending four million Indian Rupees (approximately $57,150) that was mistakenly credited to their account in 2012.
According to reports, seeing it as a “windfall,” the husband-wife duo withdrew the money a few days after it was credited into their account. The couple subsequently went on a spending spree, including buying a property and spending on their daughter’s wedding, it was reported.

The money, reports say was meant for a government department’s, Public Works Department (PWD) bank account for some developmental works.
The wrong credit was not detected until eight months after by one of the bank’s employees.
Investigation revealed the husband-wife duo misappropriated the money after withdrawing it with malafide intention within a few days of it being deposited in their account wrongly.
The couple’s bank account and the government department’s account were coincidentally in the same branch of a bank.
The couple, V. Gunasekaran and his wife Radha, was found guilty and sent to three years imprisonment by a Tirupur district trial court in the Tamil Nadu state of Southern India.
